California cardrooms are not true casinos. There is no "house" and no slots. Exchanges of cash at the tables are between the players, dependent on the cards and relative skills of the individual. However, the cardroom provides certain services which are available in casinos; e.g. tables, chips, dealers, security and assurance of fair play. For services, the management charges a fee, either a "drop" per hand, or a half-hourly (time) seat charge. Some also offer fine restaurants, bars, music, and live entertainment.
