INDIANA
INDIANA DESCRIPTION
|
In June, 1993, Indiana passed legislation making riverboat casinos legal on the Ohio River, Lake Patoka, and Lake Michigan. Of the eleven boats permitted five will cruise the Ohio River, five will cruise Lake Michigan, and one on Lake Patoka.
Local referenda were held in November, 1993, approving or disapproving gaming in the counties bordering the Ohio River, Lake Patoka, and Lake Michigan. The seven member Indiana Gaming Commission is ultimately responsible for choosing the operators and locations of riverboat casinos in Indiana, as well as regulating the industry once gaming starts.
Currently there are 7 operating casinos and two are under construction. One license remain to be awarded for the Ohio River, and one remains to be awarded for Lake Patoka. The minimum gaming age is 21.
