MICHIGAN
MICHIGAN DESCRIPTION
|
Michigan has thirteen Indian tribe casinos. Some operated before the National Gaming Act of 1989 and others have been added since 1989. All the tribes have negotiated gaming compacts with the state of Michigan. Some of the Upper Peninsula casinos may close in the winter. It is therefore advisable to telephone ahead for current information. In November 1996 Michigan voters approved the establishment of three casinos in the city of Detroit. As we go to press in 1997, a gaming commission has be appointed. They are formulating rules and procedures, but have not yet awarded any licenses.
