NEW JERSEY
NEW JERSEY DESCRIPTION
|
The state of New Jersey has twelve casino hotels in Atlantic City licensed and governed by the State of New Jersey Casino Control Commission. The New Jersey gaming regulatory system continues to serve as a model for other gaming jurisdictions around the world.
Atlantic City is on its way to becoming a destination resort with the addition of many new rooms at the most of the existing hotel casinos, the opening of the 500,000 sq.ft "New Atlantic City Convention Center", and the proposed plans for at least 4 new casino complexes opening around the turn of the century.
All Atlantic City casinos are open 24 hours. There are no entrance fees. The minimum gaming age is 21, but ID's and or passports are not required to enter the casinos. Dress is casual and proper with some gentlemen wearing jackets in the evening. Casino language is English and the currency is the US$. However, for foreign high rollers, the casinos can provide foreign language speaking host and hostess and can exchange foreign currency into US$.
The traditional image of the people who gamble in the casinos is rapidly changing in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas. The 'high roller' gamblers, or those who gamble $5,000 and up represent only 10% of the business. 60% of the overall casino revenue comes from everyday people, who arrive in Atlantic City by Casino buses for a day or a week-end of gambling and fun. Most are known as 'small players'; they are more likely to play the 'slot machines' than the more sophisticated table games.
