GAMING INFORMATION: New Zealand approved casino gaming on August 1, 1990 with the passage of their Casino Control Act.Its purpose is to promote tourism, employment and economic development.The act established a six member Casino Control Authority which is responsible for licenses.Initially the Authority may license only two casinos, one for the North Island and one for the South Island.Two years after casino operations begin, the Authority may grant a few additional licenses.The gaming age is 20 or older.There are no casino entrance fees.The first casino opened in Christchurch on the south island in late 1994.The second casino is schedule to open in Auckland, the north Island in early 1996.A third casino has been proposed for the capital Wellington.
